Twenty One Pilots- Heathens   

           

Mise-En-Scene

Location- The location of the music video is set in a prison to relate to the story line of the film 'Suicide Squads'. 

Costume- At the start of the clip the artist is in an orange jumpsuit to indicate that he is in in prison. However, later on into the video the artist is then released from his jail cell and he then walks into a basement where his costumes changes to casual clothing (2:01) highlighting that he is now free and him and his band partner are back together. 

Lighting- 2:31- The use of high key lighting around the stage gives off the sense of freedom to the prisoner as the spotlight is on him and so is the audiences attention. Despite this the use of low key lighting around the outside of the stage and on the prisoners, reminds the artist that he is still trapped in prison and he himself is a prisoner. 

Camera Work 

 Mid shot- 0:27- This shows the viewer the location of the music video and the costumes the actors in the music video are wearing which helps the audience understand the meaning of the video. 

Point of view/ Tracking shot- 0:42- Puts the audience in the actors shoes making them wonder what they are about to look at in the jail cell. Additionally, it shows the viewers what the artist is doing and where he is looking illustrating the type on envrinement he is in. 

Angled close up- 1:25- Shows the audience how the prisoner is feeling as we can see his facial expressions and how he is acting in the video. 

Long shot- 1:45- The long shot shows the change in location from the prison cells to a dark underground tunnel and also shows that the priosner is isolated as he is the only person in the tunnel. 

Editing

Cuts to the beat- 0:35/0:36- This makes the music video affective and professional as on the beat the light flickers and the cuts quickly to a wide shot of the prisoner from behind then back to the point of view camera angle creating the sense of terror and isolation. 

Special effect- 1:01- The prisoner is looking into a prison cell from the outside but the special effect puts the prisoner in the cell making him look out from the cell.
